China to Malaysia Sea Freight (Tax Included)

MYBEST receives the parcels you buy on Taobao, 1688, Pinduoduo and other platforms at our Guangzhou warehouse, consolidates them and ships them by sea to Malaysia, covering West Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan. Every sea channel is tax-included and normal and sensitive goods cost the same, which makes sea freight the natural choice for heavier, bulkier or less urgent goods. This page explains the sea channels, how they are billed, how long they take and what to know about delivery.

How sea freight is billed

Sea Express uses the standard international rule for chargeable weight: measure the length, width and height of the packed parcel in centimetres; volumetric weight = L × W × H ÷ 6000, and you pay for whichever is higher, the actual weight or the volumetric weight.

Cubic Sea Freight is billed by volume: cubic metres = L × W × H (cm) ÷ 1,000,000. If the goods weigh more than 500 kg per cubic metre, they are billed by actual weight instead. Consolidated cargo is billed at a minimum of 0.5 m³ and commercial cargo at a minimum of 1 m³; below 0.5 m³, Sea Express is usually the cheaper option.

  • Example: a 60 × 50 × 40 cm carton weighing 12 kg has a volumetric weight of 60 × 50 × 40 ÷ 6000 = 20 kg, so it is billed as 20 kg; its volume is 0.12 m³.

How long sea freight takes

Sea freight normally arrives 12–16 working days after payment; remote areas in other states may take about 3 days longer. Sailing schedules and weather can shift the overall timing, so the actual situation always applies. For urgent goods, air freight normally takes 3–5 working days.

What you can and cannot ship by sea

Sea Express and Cubic Sea Freight charge the same rate for normal and sensitive goods, so you do not need a separate sensitive channel. The sea channels do not accept the following items:

  • Firecrackers, flammable or explosive items, dangerous goods and weapons
  • Rice, tyres and plants
  • Alcohol, tobacco and e-cigarettes
  • Perishables and contraband
  • Products banned from export at origin or from import at destination

Delivery and things to know

  • Sea Express is delivered to your door by a local courier; Sea Express Self Pickup is collected at the MYBEST sea pickup point you choose.
  • Cubic Sea Freight is delivered to your door by a local lorry driver, who does not carry goods upstairs; if you need that, agree the handling fee with the driver and pay them in cash.
  • Remote, island or hill areas such as Cameron Highlands and Langkawi carry an extra delivery fee quoted by the Malaysian logistics company and paid by the recipient. Some islands and mountain areas in East Malaysia cannot be served, so ask before you order.
  • A second delivery attempt for Cubic Sea Freight is charged again. You may also collect after the container is unloaded, but confirm with customer service first.
  • Sea parcels cannot be unpacked or repacked to remove packaging (that service is for air freight only). Balance boards, e-bikes and special machinery need an extra customs clearance fee, so ask before shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Is sea freight to Malaysia tax-included?

Yes. Every sea channel is tax-included, and Cubic Sea Freight to Malaysia already includes duties and customs clearance.

Do sensitive goods cost more by sea?

No. Sea Express and Cubic Sea Freight charge normal and sensitive goods the same, but prohibited items and the items sea freight refuses still cannot be shipped.

My goods are under 0.5 m³. Which channel should I choose?

Cubic Sea Freight is billed at a minimum of 0.5 m³, so below that Sea Express or Sea Express Self Pickup is usually cheaper.

For sea cargo delivered by a logistics driver, the driver normally contacts the recipient in advance with the delivery time.
